Creative movement practice
This course is the natural development of the Contemporary movement course. The difference is that participants are expected to have a mature movement practice. Some experience in either dance improvisation or other creative practices is necessary. In the intermediate/ advanced level we work deeper and longer in the movement explorations. Participants are expected to already be artistically curious and interested in deepening their creative voice. In this course we approach the body as a means for movement explorations. We work through sensing and perceiving: weight, breath, movement.
We are drawn into dancing through a curiosity about the body and our experience of it. Each class is as much an individual journey as a means for creative expression. Form is not searched for and yet it is not absent from the work. The formal beauty of the moving body (independently and in a group) is the end- focus of the work. This course culminates in a body-oriented performance piece which will be presented in an open showing. The work may take various forms ( installation, film, theatre, visual art).
I draw from numerous contemporary dance practices including Release Technique, Body Mind Centreing, Skinner Releasing, Alexander Technique, Contact Improvisation, Instant Composition, Experiential Anatomy, Klein Technique, Simonson Modern Jazz, Yoga, Pilates and more.
