When: Fridays 18.00-19.15
Where: Room K031, Lipsius building, Cleveringaplaats 1, 2311 BD, Leiden.
Dates: 15th September (12 weeks course)
Level 1: This is a class that is aimed at beginner. It develops release principles, elasticity, power from the core, coordination with the breath, spine work, balance and spatial awareness. Simple movement patterns open the class for a warm-up aiming at softening the joints and waking up the spine. With floorwork and bodywork, we develop our relation to gravity and our experience of the three dimensional body. In a creative movement practice we then embrace the space and develop awareness of our body in space. We work through facilitated and choreographed sequences that (re-)organise parts of the body (head, ribcage, pelvis) and bodies in space. Together we develop a movement sequence (dance). Modern dance elements (release technique, experiential anatomy, somatic practices) intertwine with contemporary practices and aesthetics to give the most up to date tone to the class.

Level II/III: This class is aimed at people with at least 3 years movement experience. It develops release principles, rebound, elasticity, power from the core, coordination with the breath, spine work, balance and spatial awareness. We start with floorwork and body work to warm up the body and release joints. This develops into movement sequences that awaken bony structures and the muscular system. The class organically flows into core work that strengthens the centre and develops technique. The drive of the class is to facilitate ease of movement. There is a strong emphasis on imagery, moving from the skeleton and becoming aware of the body in space. The class ends with a dance sequence which is developed through a blend of choreographed phrases and guided improvisation. The dance material is developed from the notion of the (re-)organization of parts of the body (head, ribcage, pelvis) and of bodies in space. Modern dance elements (release technique, experiential anatomy, somatic practices) intertwine with contemporary practices and aesthetics to give the most up to date tone to the class.
