Awareness of The Spine

The Spine is our support structure, around which everything organises. Built in an intricate way, allowing for flexibility, adaptability and multiple movement pathways the Spine is a magical structure. This 6-hour movement workshop is for those curious to delve deeper into the understanding of their spine and how it works. We aim to create new movement pathways using a felt-sense of the bony structure that supports us. We explore the ecology of our anatomy, working with full body integration. We use hands-on techniques (Experiential Anatomy), and work with imagery and through guided movement explorations to bring the Spine to the forefront of our consciousness.
Some of the topic we explore are:
- The 6 primary curves of the Spine: front, back, left side, right side, rotation to the right and left.
- Spiraling and rolling - How The Spine connects to the limbs: arms & hands, legs & feet.
- The head and tail relationship and the ribcage in between.
- The Nervous System held within the Spine
- The Spinal Fluid.

I draw from various Somatic Techniques in this workshop including work from: Steve Paxton’s ‘Material for the Spine’, Amos Hetz ‘ Movement Studies’, K J holmes work on Body Mind Centering and Roisin O’ Gorman’s work with fluids and more.
