The Reliable Pelvis
Have you ever wondered if all the problems to your back pain lie in how your pelvis is supporting you? This beautiful structure is made up of 3 bones: the 2 iliac bones and the sacrum. The sacrum is the base of your spine and the iliac bones connect to your legs. The pelvis is the bridge between upper and lower body. These bones can be twisted, lifted, dropped on one side or on both causing an imbalance in how your body is supported.
In this workshop we will focus on 2 things: understanding the anatomy of the pelvis, and learning to become aware of how you (individually) are using your pelvis and what you can do to help your pelvis support you.
You can expect:
- To learn about the anatomy of the pelvic girdle, the changes in the aging pelvis, the relation between the pelvis and the upper and lower body parts.
- To practice palpating your own pelvis to sense where and how your bones lie
- An introduction to the biodynamics of the pelvis
- To release tension around the pelvic area through subtle and gentle movements
- Hands-on partner work to help you deepen your experience of the location and movement of your pelvic girdle.
- Exploring this new information through movement
- To experience as sense of freedom in the pelvic area
No previous dance experience required. Curiosity about the body is an advantage :)
NB: The pelvic area can hold psyschosomatic stress. If you feel like this is the case for you and are interested in this workshop, please get in touch with me first. I try to create supportive environements in my classes and workshops. However, there is not sufficient support to deal with trauma. If you may need extra support for this course, please consider first taking some Somatic Therapy sessions with me before enrolling.
