Embodied movement
This intensive workshop is aimed at deepening the experience of embodiment and at becoming curious about our perceptual habits. Philosophical questions about how we are in relation to the world, how we know and how we perceive are put into practice through movement explorations. Through an attentive engagement with their body sensations and movements, the participants are encouraged to find stillness. Using basic movement techniques we learn to develop body awareness. Each class begins with body work where participants come into physical contact as they work on awakening joints, muscles and internal organs. Following this participants are guided through a series of somatic investigations that start from the floor and gradually work up to standing. The focus of these classes is to draw attention to weight, breath and the skeletal structure. We also work in groups to incorporate this body awareness into collaborative exercises and improvisational experiments. These include working with the organization of bodies in space, exploring non-verbal communication through posture and gesture, devising collaborative theatre sketches and working on group improvisation techniques.
The movement exercises draw from techniques such as Body Mind Centering, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Skinner Releasing Technique, Yoga, Rolfing, Contact Improvisation and Experiential Anatomy.
