Dates: Thursdays September 13th -December 20th
This class in based on Pilates, drawing also from Ballet strengthening techniques and Experiential Anatomy. It is geared towards allowing the participant to find the most effective alignment in order to facilitate their everyday movement: walking, driving, working at a computer desk. If we neglect our posture, every movement we make can cause unwanted muscular tension. This class focuses on exercises that strengthen core stability and enhance the participant's sense of his own postural alignment. Through mat work, we learn to activate the transverse abdominal and the pelvic floor (these deep muscles are key to enabling healthy posture). We also work on strengthening the legs, buttocks and arms. In these classes I use imagery to help the participant experience the sensations of muscular release and engagement in their own body. This allows each individual to access muscular activation more effectively and to eventually become master of their own physical (and mental) well being.
